


Phenergan Promethazine Oral Solution 5mg/5ml 100ml
Phenergan contains an antihistamine called Promethazine and is used to treat allergic conditions such as hay fever or rashes (like nettle rash or hive) and to prevent nausea or vomiting (e.g. travel sickness).
Each 5 ml of oral solution contains 5 mg Promethazine hydrochloride.
Can be used for itching, hives or as an antiemetic to prevent nausea and vomiting
May cause drowsiness
Can be used from age 6 years old
Not suitable for diabetics

Children over 10 years and adults (including the elderly):
Start with two 5ml spoonful’s twice a day
This may be increased to a maximum of four 5ml spoonful’s three times a day
Children 5-10 years:
Either a single dose of two to five 5ml spoonful’s OR one or two 5ml spoonful’s twice a day
DO NOT give more than five 5ml spoonful’s a day
When two doses are required in 24 hours, the lower dose should be used
Children 2-5 years: Phenergan should not be used in children 2-5 years of age because of safety concerns
As an antiemtic (to prevent nausea and vomiting)
Children over 10 years and adults (including the elderly):
Five 5ml spoonful’s the night before the journey
This may be repeated after 6-8 hours if necessary
Children 5-10 years:
Two 5ml spoonful’s the night before the journey
This may be repeated after 6-8 hours if necessary
Phenergan and Pregnancy or Breastfeeding
Phenergan should not be used during pregnancy or during breastfeeding
Effects on ability to drive and use machines
Because the duration of action may be up to 12 hours, patients should be advised that if they feel drowsy they should not drive or operate heavy machinery.
